Water Wise Plants

The Plight of the Water Wise Plants – Part 1

Townsville has been on the dry side lately and that leads us to think of what plants will be appropriate to cope in this situation. The importance of having a green space at home or at the office should not be underestimated. So are there plants that are suitable with level 3 water restrictions? The answer is ‘yes’.  Part 1 of The Plight of the Water Wise Plants begins below.

Introducing Zanzibar Gem, Zamioculcas zamiifolia. Striking green and glossy leaves, known to purify the air, doesn’t mind only getting watered once a week and doesn’t even care if its root bound in a pot – making this plant a winner in so many ways. So my only warning? Don’t over water this plant and keep it warm (which in North Queensland it’s not hard to do).

Although it might be a plant that is hard to kill and thrives on neglect, I still consider it a real collectors piece. The plant has a signature look that really adds value and appeal to help create or add to your green space – whether in decorative pots or fill planter boxes.

Stay tuned for Part 2.
